Igapira is a state in northeastern Ancoria situated along the Hyperian coast. Located at the easternmost tip of continental Ancoria, is bordered by Tecarema to the west and Bastião to the south. Its capital and largest city is Nero. The AN-111 highway runs across its shoreline, terminating at Nero and merging with the AN-233.

The state's primary economic output is shipping, industrial manufacturing and fishing. Cashews, cotton and sea salt are also major exports of the state. Petroleum extraction formerly comprised a significant bulk of Igapira's economy, before the depletion of said resources led to economic downturn in the state. Its sandy beaches and dunes are also a major draw for tourism, which contributes positively to the local economy. The naval base at Nero is a vital strategic asset to the Ancorian navy, and more broadly the Commonwealth's defensive interests. Igapira possesses concerning levels of poverty and crime, owed partly to the collapse of its local petroleum industry.

Culturally, Igapira is a noteworthy site of Flacklander culture in the Federation, with most of its populace speaking Low Vestan as a first language and adhering to Reformed Soterian tenets. Saint Yfke's Cathedral is located in Nero, a noteworthy example of Lectorist ecclesiastical architecture.

History

Igapira was first settled by Flacklanders in the 6th century S.C., with Nero serving as a major Hyperian port for their burgeoning colonial empire—though the city's relevance would soon fade as Soteropla emerged the dominant Low Vestan metropole in the new world. The crushing of a slave revolt in 655 S.C. led to the formation of a number of quilombos by fugitive slaves in the hinterlands of the state. The expulsion of the Flacklanders, the brief Viratian rule over the northeast, and the independence of the Ancorian Empire would see a revitalization of Igapira, as it became a vital trade port, reinforcing Ancoria's strategic position in the Hyperian. The cangaço would persistently burden the Igapiran hinterland up until the late 9th century S.C., with one of the most famed cangaceiros, Zé van Beek waging his bandit insurgency from the western countryside. His death at the hands of federal forces in 888 S.C. would mark the beginning of the decline of the cangaço.

The 10th century—and the beginning of the Rational Calendar—would both see widespread industrialization of the state, with widespread exploitation ensuing following the discovery of offshore oil reserves. From 0026 to 0055, Igapira had one of the fastest-growing economies in the Federation. Gradual depletion of oil resources in the following decades would lead to a slow stagnation of Igapira's economy, however. With Igapira's petroleum reserves almost totally depleted by the late 0070s, and the ensuing Novadietan Space Boom of the 0080s, the state quickly experienced a severe economic downturn, leading to a steep rise in poverty. From 0089 to 0096, Igapira had the highest homicide rate in Ancoria, peaking at 72.1 per 100,000. In recent decades, however, Igapira's economy has made a gradual rebound, assisted by careful economic reforms and federal assistance.
