The Pan-Esmarian Commonwealth is a multinational economic, political and military union comprising most of South Esmaria. The youngest of the three Plateian blocs, it was established by the Pan-Esmaria Treaty in 0029 R.C., following the Místria Summit.
The foundation of the Coalition of Congressional Nations had proven a drastic shift of the geopolitical scale in a world still recovering from the scars of war, and with the foundation of the Asterian Union State in 0014 R.C., the South Esmarian nations had found themselves a potential battleground of markets and ideologies between two greater powers. Rather than succumb, the Místria Summit would be held in 0029 R.C., bringing together the myriad leaders of southern Esmaria under a single roof — and it would be there that the fate of half a continent was decided.
The Pan-Esmarian Commonwealth's founding consolidated its predecessor organizations of the Porto Sereno Pact and the South Esmarian Common Market into a single cohesive organization, serving both as a defensive military alliance and an economic union of states. With their strategically valuable position, leveraging their control over Antipodean water reserves came incredibly easy, serving to springboard the nations of the Commonwealth to prosperity.
The rise of asteroid mining — as well as the exploitation of offworld ice reserves — would prove a challenge to the Commonwealth, and serve as a motivating factor for the nations of the Commonwealth to rapidly expand their spatial presence. The tribulations of the Colony War introduced newfound concerns to the Commonwealth regarding the possible rise of Spacer nationalism, leading to a hasty expansion of national militaries as well as offworld responsibilities.
