The Ancorian Armed Forces are the military forces of the Ancorian Federation. Comprised of four uniformed branches, it is the second-largest military in the Commonwealth after the Imperial Itzmilcan Armed Forces. Despite this, it has largely maintained a defensive role in Commonwealth operations, with an emphasis of safeguarding the territorial integrity of the alliance and Ancoria in particular.
Ancorian Army
The Ancorian Army is the land warfare branch of the Ancorian Armed Forces. Its primary responsibilities are defensive and expeditionary operations in times of war, and, in peacetime, providing internal security, emergency relief and law enforcement. The primary preventive police body of Ancoria, the Military Police (not to be confused with the Army Police,) are also subordinate to the Ancorian Army, serving as part of the auxiliary military reserve, alongside the Military Firefighters Corps.
History
The Ancorian Army can trace its traditions to the Imperial Ancorian Army, itself the successor to colonial Viratian rule in Ancoria. Interventions in South Esmaria, particularly against Costa Ferrea, Itzmilco and the Condean Empire, shaped much of its doctrinal experience in the latter centuries of the Standard Calendar. In the Rational Era, the Ancorian Army has had little direct experience directly engaging a peer adversary since its intervention in the Quisquellan War, having primarily seen secondary experience through proxy theatres and offworld frontier operations.
