Halcyonite
Halcyonite is a holocrystalline metamaterial that was originally found during the waning months of the Twilight War by Serican scientists as a component towards yielding a “final, decisive” measure for the Entente against the increasing threat of the International Avant-Garde (and the subsequent course of the war itself). However, due to the widespread civil and political disorder following the aftermath of the Great Exchange, this technology became lost deep within hidden, buried Serican laboratories well until the rise of the Asterian Union State between Serica and Zalesia in RC 0014.
In RC 0097, during standard excavation procedures on Plateia and within Serican territory, forward expeditionary teams finally isolate the previously lost location of research complexes dating back to SC 972. With the threat of the nascent Coalition of Congressional Nations being all too apparent to the Asterian Union State, immediate scouring of the facility for its databanks reveal a plethora of metamaterial research plans that all ended in failures—except for one.
One plan labelled “Project 433” had concluded successfully prior to the outbreak of the Twilight War's apocalyptic finale, but its yielded product was too far into the course of the war to be mass produced by any Serican forces. The contents of the plan specifically detailed the successful synthesis of an extremely lightweight, flexible, and resistant metamaterial. Although projected with high production expense at the time, this metamaterial allowed resistance against significant kinetic blows in addition to thermal and radioactive exposures that could arise from proximally detonated nuclear weaponry. Seeing this uncovered technology as the lynchpin for success against any future confrontation with the Coalition, the Union State rushed to reanalyze and reproduce this metamaterial.
The Asterians were able to successfully create a mass-production process of the material in RC 0105 after extrapolating from the old chemical synthesis designs. Military strategists that possessed knowledge of the project proposed the usage of this rediscovered metamaterial renamed “halcyonite” on a deployable chassis akin to space construction and mining exo-suits, where the material would be utilized as armor without sacrificing too much additional mass. This lead to the secretive development of the MR-03 Bogatyr, which would first see action in the Colony War in RC 0109 against the CCN and Chen Chengyang's rebellion and utilize halcyonite's properties effectively against Coalition naval fleets. The process would inevitably be acquired by Coalition intelligence forces, leading to the proliferation of the Kunlun progenitor XRG-05 and Coalition Project VFX mobile fencers later into the Colony War.
Halcyonite received its name from Asterian scientists due to the “idyllic dispersion of constituent carbon and metallic atoms” within its novel crystalline structures. This structure in its basal form offers tensile strength and molecular stability, in addition to sporting high thermal resistance. In its refinement process, halcyonite attains its radioactive protection factor, all without having the addition of a significant amount of molecular mass from traditional protection such as lead. These exceedingly desired chemical properties of halcyonite are what makes the metamaterial the ideal constituent for the armor of various advanced vehicles and armors, namely mobile fencers.
The production of halcyonite is an arduous process that involves the utilization extreme heat and elements such as carbon, titanium, and boron in complex reactions that inevitably yield a uniform crystalline intermediate. The intermediate is then treated by the Semyonov Radioprotective Reaction to yield the final halcyonite product, which is carefully shaped into geometries required for the vehicle or armor that it is to be applied upon.
