The Asterian Union State is a continental superstate spanning almost the entirety of Asteria. It is the largest and most populous country on Plateia, encompassing over half of Plateia's surface population of 10.1 billion. Its central capital is Altunkent, although power is distributed across an ethnofederalist structure across a multitude of federations both on Plateia and offworld. Power is vested in the Prostasist Party of the Asterian Union State, with the Vozhd acting as head of state.
The foundation of the Coalition of Congressional Nations in the aftermath of the Twilight War would stoke the flames of paranoia in the east, where fears of Coalition hegemony would become an overriding factor in geopolitical decisionmaking. While the Zalesians and Sericans had long been at odds, the introduction of the Coalition's presence on the world stage, as well as the ideological similarity of both predecessor states, would ultimately culminate in the foundation of the Asterian Union State in 0014 R.C., through the Consensus of Xinjing. The Consensus would mark the conclusion of centuries of on-and-off continental proxy warfare between the Eagle and the Dragon. Through careful geopolitical maneuvering, economic manipulation and the natural progression of preexisting diplomatic ties on the continent, true continental unification would be achieved by 0068 R.C., solidifying the Asterian Union State as a true counterweight to the nascent CCN's influence.
The Asterian Union State is governed by an ideology that can best be described as radically plurinationalist, collectivist, and ethnofederalist, espousing a rhetoric where the sovereignty and culture of the myriad Asterian peoples stands paramount. The Union State itself is divided into federations, which are themselves divided into republics, possessing varying degrees of autonomy within the vast framework of the superstate. The Union State also possesses a multitude of space colonies and offworld holdings, the autonomy of some having been recognized after the Asterian Union State's territorial losses in the Colony War. The Union State's defeat in the Colony War has led to a massive growth in revanchist sentiment and militarism, to which the outbreak of the Solar War has seemingly granted the Union State the perfect opportunity to strike against both the Coalition and the newly-founded Compact.
