Flumênia (Goitacá: Icati; Low Vestan: Flumenië) is a state in northeastern Ancoria. One of the most populous states in the Federation, its capital and largest city is Soteropla, with the city of Keulen a close contender in population. Bounding the Hyperian coast, it is bordered by Olímpia and Tecarema to the north, with Alcântara and Pijirica located to the south. The AN-111 highway runs along the Hyperian coast, connecting Flumênia to the southeastern states and the northeast.

Its coastline is defined by the northernmost extent of the Hyperian Rainforest, with dry savanna and caatinga defining the inland. Flumênia is a culturally diverse state, with a legacy influenced by Flacklander colonization, the slave trade, and a number of rebellions against Viratian—and subsequently Ancorian—authority. The cangaço phenomena of social banditry in the 9th century S.C. is believed to have originated in Flumênia, before spreading to the broader northeast; the cultural image of the cangaceiro remains a prominent element of the state's cultural image. Flumênia is the epicenter of Reformed Soterianity in Ancoria, as well as Spiritist practices.

History

Colonized by the Flacklands in the early 6th century S.C., it quickly became the seat of their colonial governance, with its hinterlands heavily exploited for its abundance of mineral resources and the establishment of slave plantations. The Great Ancorian War would see Viratian colonial forces prevail over their Flacklander counterparts, bringing the north of colonial Ancoria under Viratian control. The Captaincy of Flumênia was established thereafter.

Members of the Frankcutter Grand Orient of Ancoria, long discontent with Viratian colonial rule in the continent and seeking to bring about a new nation founded on enlightenment principles, proved pivotal in the Flumênia Rebellion. The short-lived Republic of Flumenië would subsequently be crushed—but many of the veterans of this war would later prove pivotal in the subsequent Ancorian War of Independence. The establishment of the Ancorian Empire in 708 S.C. would see Flumênia uplifted to the status of province, though the region would remain wrought with instability and banditry, known as the cangaço.

Various local rebellions would take place over the course of the 8th century S.C., though the abolition of the monarchy would segue into a period of increased federal involvement in pacifying the notoriously unstable northeast. The 10th century S.C. would see Flumênia rapidly urbanize and industrialize, becoming one of the primary hubs of manufacturing and mining in the Federation.
