Tianyijiao is a new-age and syncretic esper religion of Kunlunese origin, with a minor presence in Serican diaspora communities across Plateia and other worlds such as Vasati. It was founded by Ma Zhangxian, formerly named Song Zhijin, and draws inspiration from a multitude of religions: namely Nirvanism with Soterian characteristics and terminology.
The religion preaches that humanity is locked in a state of spiritual decay that can only be overcome by awakening latent psychic potential. Ma Zhangxian presents himself as an enlightened avatar capable of transferring his own mental energy to disciples to forcibly burn away accumulated karma. Initiate practices combine intense psychical conditioning and sensory deprivation, promising divine immunity from an impending cosmic purification.
The sect has drawn increasing hostility from varying authorities over reports of coercion. Despite crackdowns, underground cells continue to propagate among disenfranchised diaspora populations in Plateia and Vasati.
