Algorithmic Intelligence

Algorithmic Intelligence, or AI, is a term that is used to refer to intelligence that arises from monolithic algorithmic programs. These algorithms iterate upon themselves in widespread networks of neuron-like code, leading to software and the encoding of machines that can exhibit a superficially human-like form of intelligent behaviors.

Algorithmic Intelligence variants
Systems Algorithmic Intelligence, or SAI, is a more nuanced term that is used to refer highly specialized computer systems that are assigned varying responsibilities over systems and functions on vessels, whether of civilian or military nature. Due to the innumerable variables at play for the conduct of spaceships across interplanetary distances, the integration of SAIs onto ships allows for a lighter crew load, and in turn less vessel weight dedicated to life support systems and related logistics. However, due to the nature of algorithmic intelligence, SAIs demand a much higher amount of power than ships that do not possess such systems.

Central Algorithmic Intelligence, or CAI, is a type of SAI that is fielded aboard space colonies and is responsible for the dictation of inflow and outflow interplanetary traffic, production quotas, resource allocation and distribution, and automated systems such as the deployment of repair drone swarms for breaches. Although different blocs and nations therein have differing principles in relation to the design and fielding of CAIs in relation to space colony management and their own respective economic policies, their use nevertheless has demonstrable effects in improving colonial output, transportation and logistical efficiency, and general colonist welfare at the expense of increased power demand—and a devastating situation in the event of total system failure.
