 Although the majority of mankind now lives inside one of the major power blocs that dominate human space, there are still many nations, groups and peoples that exist outside of their borders; some seeking to align themselves with the great powers, others prefering to forge a new path into the future for themselves and others. Some have the fortune to exist in relative peace or prosperity, others have had the mishap of falling victim to scarcity, or the incessant desire for blood the struggles of the larger factions seem to possess.

Once again, the continent become a hotbed for the proxy warfare of the three major Plateian blocs, the dream of a Union of Zanobian States, once within reach, is seemingly distant now. As the other peoples of the world take to the stars, Zanobia fights against itself.

 Many governments have been reduced to patchworks of half-mad nuclear warlords and genocidal tyrant-generals lording over their oppressed populaces with amoral mercenaries and subpar irregular armies. The remaining power-players of the continent are in a race, not only against one another, but against time — for with every passing day, the resources dwindle further, the inherited wealth from the glory days of petrol-state excesses growing more and more fickle. If the looming spectre of imperialism is to be exorcised, it must be done soon — lest the continent be damned to an eternity of economic and political subservience at the whims of outsiders.
