The Confederation of Nephi is a presidential constitutional republic located in the Esmarian southwest, comprised of seven states, four of which are under partial or complete Itzmilcan occupation. It is bordered by the Empire of Itzmilco to the south, Florisando and Splendia to the north, and Saddlerock to the east. Due to its strategic position bordering the Pan-Esmarian Commonwealth, it is one of the foremost fortified states of the Emerald Alliance, viewed as a strategic bulwark against Itzmilcan aggression.
Nephi is linguistically distinct from its neighbors, with a third of its population being Guibard-speaking Jehannines. Its largest city is Seagrove, which is situated on the Esmarian west coast.
History
The Jehannine migrations to the Esmarian southwest in the early 9th century S.C. were among the first pretexts for conflict between the Esmarian Federation and the Empire of Itzmilco. While the First Itzmilcan-Esmarian War saw a total Esmarian victory and the territorial annexation of what is now known as the Esmarian southwest, it would lay the groundwork for the tribulations of the Second Itzmilcan-Esmarian War. The Great Exchange, which saw Esmaria's military and institutions crippled by nuclear warfare, left its vast, porous border vulnerable to Itzmilcan revanchism. The ensuing conflict saw scattered, disorganized federal forces annihilated, leading to the humiliating Treaty of Florisando, solidifying Itzmilco's territorial reconquest.
This federal defeat would ultimately be one of the first omens of its imminent collapse. With the southwestern states plunged into rampant lawlessness by the erosion of federal authority, the Church of New Revelation assumed control amidst the Federal Crisis, uniting the southwestern states under the Confederation of Nephi. The refugee crisis, exacerbated by genocidal policies implemented by Itzmilco south of the new border, demanded the establishment of a robust paramilitary element by the Church, as well as extensive infrastructural expansions aiming to accommodate Esmarian refugees. With the reconstitution of Esmaria into the Emerald Alliance, Nephi received ample funding and subsidization for its independent defense. This continued well into the founding of the Coalition, as Nephi's armed forces were folded into the Coalition Forces Authority, with other elements reorganized into the Nephi National Guard.
Today, Nephi is host to a significant complement of Coalition forces, acting as a bulwark against further Itzmilcan aggression. Through its port of Seagrove, it also serves as a significant port of Azulic Ocean trade. Politically, it is a stronghold for the Forwardists, as megacorporate mining endeavors are some of the main stimulating factors in the Nephian economy in the present.
