The Glendresian Commonwealth, commonly referred to as Glendresia or simply The Glen, is a federal unicameral presidential republic in the South Azulic Ocean spanning the Continental Planaltine, as well as numerous smaller islands. At 1,388,545.05 square miles, it is the largest Coalition member state in the Azulic rim. One of the founding members of the Coalition, it was among the states to advocate for the Global Disarmament Initiative, which saw the consolidation of all member states' armed forces into the Coalition Forces Authority. Due in part to its geographic size and strategic location along the rim, Glendresia hosts a significant Coalition military force, as well as a wide array of military facilities, the most significant being Tennerfield Base.
History
Adhering to the terms of the Tamlin Round Table Agreement (974 S.C.) the Glendresian Commonwealth was the first Coalition member state to officially disband its armed forces. The former Glendresian National Security Forces would become the first soldiers of the Coalition Forces Authority in 976 S.C., 24 August being celebrated as CFA Day in Glendresia. Glendresia would enter the Rational Calendar in 979 S.C. (0001 R.C.) as the first Coalition member state to fully accede to the Tamlin Round Table Agreement. The ensuing global drive towards space saw Glendresian resources become a crucial component to the Coalition's logistics in the initial push towards the colonization of outer space.
Where the previous Magnolia Accord (959 S.C.) had served as the basis of Glendresian politics going into the Rational Calendar, this would further be amended by Magnolia II in 0036 R.C. under the presidency of Ian Gallaway.
Magnolia II would serve as the cultural and political basis of present-day Glendresia, reversing the nonpartisan system banning political parties. Through the Healing Hands Amendment, it would also abolish the repressive Reservation System and replace it with the Indigenous Trust Lands, granting them representation in the national political process. Magnolia II also saw the raising of the current-day flag of Glendresia, known now as the Magnolia flag. Ian Gallaway would go on to found the Democratic Labourist Party, which remains a prominent force in Glendresian politics. This compromise would remain practically unchallenged for the rest of the first century R.C. up until the Colony War.
The aftermath of the Colony War and growing discontent with the unpopular Vasatian Wars, however, have jeopardized the status quo once comfortably occupied by the incumbent Democratic Labourist Party and the opposing National Liberal Party. The emergence of various anti-Coalition candidates, and the Coalition-skeptical Independent Glendresia Party have begun to challenge positions and ideas once regarded as untouchable. Occasional implementations of the Coalition Forces within Glendresia in ““internal security”” purposes have led some to regard the CFA as an occupying force. What had once been viewed as an end to wars by optimists of a bygone age has seemingly become something far more sinister.
