The Republic of Colla is a presidential republic located along the Condean Mountains, bounding the western coast of South Esmaria. Its capital is Willkamarka. A unitary republic, it is comprised of six departments. The Pan-Condean Maglev runs through the country, its construction a source of economic and industrial expansion as well as controversy, as many indigenous groups were displaced by the rail line. The Republic of Colla also hosts the Ch'iyara Chinkana military complex, one of three secret subterranean command facilities in the Commonwealth intended for the coordination of the combined arms of the alliance in event of conflict.
History
The completion of the Pan-Condean Maglev in 0114 R.C. marked the end of nearly three decades of construction aiming to connect the resource-rich Condes with the Pan-Esmarian Space Elevator. This suddenly placed the agrarian, undeveloped nation along the centre of a key resource highway, bringing about swift economic growth and the expansion of industry to accommodate new mines and maglev infrastructure. Financially supported by the Ancorian Federation, the country now steadily pushes towards becoming a developing country.
However, this is not without growing pains: the expanded exploitation of Colla's land and industry has led to the displacement of untold thousands of indigenous peoples, who were also exploited for their labor during the process of the Pan-Condean Maglev's construction. By 0118 R.C., already indigenous resistance has manifested in the form of the Marka Awqasiri Suyu (“People's Army”), a low-level insurgency sporadically operating along the country's hinterlands. Safeguarding the maglev is among the primary focuses of the small South Esmarian nation's military. While the incumbent Ripuwlika Runanaq Kallpa (“Republican Popular Force”) enjoys a fairly popular support for uplifting many out of poverty and 'modernizing' the nation, the exploitation resulting from the nation's rapid industrialization has also given various opposition elements a troubling amount of appeal to the downtrodden.
