Arioserican Federation

The Arioserican Federation is a constituent federation of the Asterian Union State, located in Southeast Asteria. Arioserica is bordered by the Union State federations of Soanatice and Biamadeta to the west, the Serican Federation to the north, the Republic of Lugarico to the east and the Glendresian Commonwealth to the south. It is composed of four constituent republics (Namea, Jalon, Laoloon, Quemaria), owing to Arioserica existing as a union of member states at the time it was inducted into the Union State. Arioserica in the last century has come to be dominated in political affairs by Namea, as a consequence of its role as the “revolutionary cradle” of Arioserica. The federation also possesses great natural wealth in the form of large oil and natural gas deposits, which the state-owned oil and gas company PK Asfneft has invested significant sums into exploiting.

History

Arioserica stepped into the first year of the Rational Calendar as a disunited Labourist regime, the Arioserican Union, a sort of spiritual successor to the erstwhile Viratian colonial federation in the region, imposed and dominated by its most powerful member state, the People's Democratic Republic of Namea. From the disorderly turbulence in the Union and the PDR, the internal conflict of the increasingly-factionalized Arioserican Labour Party would come to the forefront.

General Secretary Têôđôricô Lê's faction, with a foothold in the Central Committee and the allegiance of the People's Army, had had a significant advantage over his chief opponent, Minister of Finance Phêrô Nguyễn's faction. Nevertheless, the latter formed a united front that included even moderates of the Quemarian nationalist religious movement Phlov Meatophum, and launched a Union-wide uprising in 0016 R.C.

In his belief that a speedy victory was unlikely, the General Secretary turned to the newly-founded Asterian Union State, with whom the Arioserican Union had been friendly, to request for military assistance. Under the tank treads from Asteria's two largest powers, the government's victory was much swifter, and its retribution in the aftermath brutal. The brief civil war and foreign intervention had extinguished all traces of regional turmoil from before the Rational Calendar.

By 0022 R.C., Lê's post-purge party formally abolished the state's nominal Labourist ideology, and applied for Arioserican membership in the Union State. With its acceptance, the Arioserican Union became a Federation, its three member People's Republics reorganized as ethnic Republics, and the ruling Labour Party transformed into the Arioserican section of the Prostasist Party.

The transformation into a Federation of the Union State further pacified the “junior” republics. Gradually, the Namean-led paternalism of the Federation's government relaxed somewhat to permit the participation of the other three major ethnicities: the Lais (mestiços of part-Viratian descent and their descendants), the Laoloonians and the Quemarians. The still remarkable authoritarian hand of ethnic Namean Prostasists, however, had disenchanted numerous ethnic Nameans and non-Nameans alike - a fact exploited by a movement claiming to be the resurgent religion of Phlov Meatophum.
