South Amzance, officially the Republic of Amzance (ROA), is a federal presidential republic located in the Vela Islands and Antipodea. It is also known as Amzancian Antipodea, the Hechtstadt Authorities, or simply Amzance. It extends control over what has originally been dubbed “South Amzance” by Amzancian authorities in former Coniston (now KwaNdwandwe, Union of Eningui), an administrative collection of territories composed of Amzancian Antipodea and the Vela Islands; which, given their simultaneous status as those territories the ROA currently exercises control over, have been given the administrative byname of the Free Territories of the Republic of Amzance.

While the Republic of Amzance (ROA) had maintained a presence upon the Antipodean continent and Vela Islands through the then sparsely-inhabited Territory of South Amzance, it wasn't until the refugee crisis in the aftermath of the Umzantshi Revolution that the fleeing government's whole attention turned to South Amzance in earnest. Until then, outside the native populations of those places, South Amzance had only housed relatively much colonization effort on the Vela Islands, with the coasts of Amzancian Antipodea having two small white-only settlements of Hechtstadt (the first ever established by Amzance in Antipodea) and Coniston-on-the-Ice.
The loss of Coniston and Jonesbury on the Zanobian mainland in 0019 R.C. would prompt an evacuation of the National Conservative Party (NCP) government under general and president Albert von der Wurth, remnants of the Amzancian National Armed Forces (ANAF) and some [number in the higher hundred thousands to lower millions of] people - most of whom white settlers, but also a significant portion being black loyalists - to flee to the Vela Islands and Amzancian Antipodea, where Marion and then Hechtstadt would be made “wartime capitals” while martial law was under effect.
The refugee crisis, which was severe enough to force the authorities to redirect many from the islands towards the original two Antipodean settlements, and to a much greater extent, refugee camps dotting the coast of Amzancian Antipodea, presented both a severe housing problem and a possibility of Umzantshi infiltration among black refugees. It is through this narrative that the early period of Antipodean-based ROA governance under martial law, dubbed [White Terror], was conducted: a militaristic continuation of minority rule as was practiced on the Zanobian mainland. At the same time, the ANAF continued to conduct minor operations against the newly-formed Union of Eningui, to no avail. The unsavory racial attitudes of the exiled regime discouraged heavy aid from the Coalition, who attempted to assist in only resolving the housing and food crises.
