Happiness Research Institute (Tenzanese: 慶福硏究院 Keifuku Kenkyūin) is a Tenzanese New Religion founded by Yoshikawa Ryūkai (吉川隆戒). The group promotes a syncretic spiritual doctrine, blending elements from Nirvanism, Soterianity, and New Age beliefs, centered on Yoshikawa's claim to be the reincarnation of a supreme spiritual being named O Cantar (御神足 O-Kantaru). Happiness Research teaches spiritual growth through study, meditation, and the pursuit of “happiness” as a divine principle.
The group has drawn significant controversy; critics accuse the organization of being cult-like due to its authoritarian structure, aggressive proselytism, and high demand for donations. Yoshikawa's prolific output of “prophecies” has been widely dismissed as pseudo-scientific or opportunistic, particularly when he claimed to channel figures such as Coalition SECGEN Lucian Hunt, Soter, or the spirits of those recently deceased. The group's nationalist political stances, dissemination of conspiratorial narratives, and promotion of militant rhetoric towards the Asterian mainland have further sparked public criticism and concern from observers.
