Battlefield euthanasia
Battlefield euthanasia is a practice that is known among infantry, especially those deployed in naval contexts (such as the boarding of ships or space stations). However, it is one that exists only in the context of the usage of c-lances; this is due to the phenomenon of c-beams. When these lances fire and create such arcs of plasma, infantry that are close enough to such an exchange can receive an often lethal dose of radiation. Unlike with battlefield injuries that can either be addressed or have the infantryman bleed out quickly, lethal doses of radiation can create long periods of agony well before the onset of death. As a result, those who are inflicted with such have an unmentioned permission to end their own lives; for Soterians, who do not believe in committing suicide for any reason, a mercy death by their fellow soldiers is delivered.
