It originated in [[serican_federation|Serica]], later spreading to [[sirimese_federation|Sirim]] as //Yaseonjong// (Sirimese: 若禪宗), [[Namea]] as //Nhã Thiền Tông//, and [[Tenzan]]. Different schools have divergent focal points, whether in philosophical dialogue or quiet meditation. The crux of Zen practice hinges on that of meditation as a means to access one's own prajna nature, and in turn, expressing this nature as a means to benefit other beings. While some Zen groups follow traditional Nirvanist practices, others favor following the path of accessing this nature under the tutelage of a master. Chants, rituals, and scriptural studies are still a part of most Zen currents, however. In Tenzan, it became especially influential among warriors, artists, and monks. Through these, had a profound impact on cultural aesthetics, influencing ink painting, garden design, tea ceremony, and martial arts—all of which reflect its values of simplicity, spontaneity, and directness.
