**Great Serpent** ---- In [[Theophanism]], the **Great Serpent** is the ultimate architect and ruler of the physical cosmos. Having been created out of cosmic rift, he is not an all-powerful deity but rather an inherently corrupted creator who mistook his own existence for supreme divinity. Lacking the ability to generate true spiritual essence (and thereby new beings), the Great Serpent engineered the physical universe as a complex, material prison. He trapped immortal sparks of the immaterial God within fragile human bodies, surrounding them with a world of decay, suffering, and sensory distraction to ensure they remain ignorant of their true origin. To maintain control over his flawed creation, the Great Serpent governs through a hierarchy of subordinate [[Archons]], planetary or metaphysical rulers who act as jailers of the cosmos. While he weaves the overarching web of material temptation, physical pain, and mortality, his Archons police the spiritual boundaries to ensure souls remain chained to the material cycle. {{tag>religion theophanism}}
