Located along the southern shores of the [[Paraguaçu]] Sea and the middle reaches of the southern [[Coari Rainforest]], it is bordered to the north by [[Coari]] and to the east by [[Natalândia]], with international borders with the State of [[Yucay]] and the Kingdom of [[Guasuguay]]. One of the less populous states of the Federation, it remained as an uncertain frontier for much of its history, with the vast majority of its municipalities having been founded in the past 200 years. A major route in Ancoria's highway network, the AN-366 runs through the state, to which trucking is a significant part of the state economy.
