Its capital and largest city is Natália. Situated along the country's Hyperian coast, is bordered to the west by Itacati and Pijirica, with Flumênia to its north and Porangatama to its south. The AN-111 highway, colloquially known as the Hyperian Highway or A Translitorânea, runs along its coastline, connecting the state with its northern and southern neighbors. Inland, it connects to the Ancorian Interior Seaway, with the port city of Benfica being a major center of inter-state trade. Alcântara is host to significant tourist attractions, in particular the beaches of Natália, Sapucaí and Cabo de Fernão. It is also a major centre of military operations for the broader Commonwealth, hosting a major naval base and a citadel in the vicinity of its capital. In its past, Alcântara was a captaincy of the broader Viratian colonization of Ancoria, being elevated to the status of province following the rise of the Ancorian Empire. Many holdovers of its colonial legacy can be seen in its traditional architecture, with Natália, Stellamaris and São Henrique being renowned for their historical districts.
