The **Republic of Los Condes** is a presidential republic situated along the western coast of the [[Esmarian continent]], situated along the [[Condean Mountains]]. The largest economic potency of the Condean states, it serves as the economic backbone of the region. One of the primary sponsors of the [[Pan-Condean Maglev]] project, its completion in 0114 R.C. has expanded the Condean role to be truly international in scope, having a key role in mining industries supplying the [[Pan-Esmarian Space Elevator]]. Under the leadership of the technofuturist [[Congress of Visionary Trade Unions]], the country has seen significant expansions in labor rights, the development of the cutting-edge [[WALLALA]] computerized economic management system, and expansion of Pan-Condean economic integration and political solidarity.

Los Condes was hardly dealt an advantageous card by the dissolution of the Condean Union in the latter years of the Standard Calendar. A neglected mining backwater of the now-defunct Union, it became the responsibility of the new government to make use of the nation's abundant resource wealth. Initially, this was a role foreign corporate entities were more than happy to fill — namely Mitsubara, as Tenzan's economic and political influence waxed to stretch across the Azulic Ocean.

Megacorporate presence quickly became megacorporate influence — and this became readily apparent when strikes and calls for expanded workers' rights were met with bullets and targeted assassinations at the hands of government and mercenary forces. The vice grip of foreign, particularly [[Tenzan|Tenzanese]] corporate interests tightened even further with the coup d'etat of 0005 R.C., the subsequent [[National Development Administration]] essentially being a front amenable to foreign interests. From 0014 R.C. to 0022 R.C., the so-called [[Years of Lead]] came to define the working-class consciousness, eventually leading to the collapse of the National Development Administration and the restoration of democracy in the country. Industries were nationalized, concessions were made with trade unions, and the new government quickly adopted a political agenda sympathetic to the rise of Pan-Esmarian sentiment galvanized by Coalition intervention in the [[Quisquellan Civil War]] (0016-0024 R.C.).

As a result, Los Condes was among the founding members of the [[Pan-Esmarian Commonwealth]] at the [[Místria Summit]]. Subsequent administrations adopted ambitious policies of continued industrialization, greatly developing the nation's urban centres and bringing millions out of poverty. Los Condes would emerge as the most prosperous of the former states of the [[Condean Union]], becoming a noteworthy presence in the [[South Azulic Ocean]]. Under this prosperity, a new political establishment was defined by the rise of the bipartisan system of the [[National Progress Party]] and the [[Soterian Integrity Party]], who vied for power in national and local politics, though this perceived stranglehold on power gradually gave rise to complacency and corruption. Rapid industrial development slowed to a stagnant crawl by the 0070s R.C., however, and inflation paired with a general dissatisfaction with the country's bipartisan political system led to the surprising victory of the Qhaway Qhatu T'inki Rimana Wasi, or [[Congress of Visionary Trade Unions]], in the elections of 0084 R.C.

The [[Novadietan Space Boom]] of the late 0080s R.C. led to a growing interest in Pan-Condean political solidarity, something the newly-elected CVTU was more than willing to take advantage of. It was such ambitions that led to the development of the [[Pan-Condean Maglev]], an effort largely backed by Los Condes. Over the course of three decades, a network of rail lines would be constructed, bridging the Condes and ferrying millions of tonnes of raw materials to the Pan-Esmarian Space Elevator, in return for refined goods and consumer electronics. Even before the Maglev's completion in 0114 R.C., the prosperity of the boom was aptly taken advantage of by the incumbent party, leading to developments such as the [[WALLALA]] computerized economic management system, the first Condean space colonies, and the establishment of a Pan-Condean currency, the Inti.

Today, the CVTU remains in power, guided by a rational, technofuturist vision for the future of Los Condes. The party has remained largely unchallenged since the collapse of the bipartisan system in the 0080s, with opposing political stances gradually being marginalized out of the national political system. Few notice the rise of this velvet-gloved authoritarianism — and fewer question it. In foreign policy, Los Condes' foreign policy is supportive of the steady, pacifistic status quo [[Ancoria]] and Novadieta pursue, aiming to keep the Commonwealth out of conflict with the [[Asterian Union State|Union State]] and the [[Coalition of Congressional Nations|Coalition]]. In the event that peace is disrupted, however, Los Condes has also grown to possess a significant navy, a key component of the western seaboard's defense — and the Commonwealth as a whole.
